Description
:-
DTP/V is a combination
of three antigens, Purified Diphtheria Toxoid, Purified
Tetanus Toxoid and Pertussis vaccine. Diphtheria and tetanus
toxoids are highly purified and adsorbed on Aluminium
phosphate before combining with pertussis vaccine.
The
combined vaccine has the advantage that the active immunity
is simultaneously produced against the diseases diphtheria,
tetanus and whooping cough.
The
composition of the vaccine per ml is as follows:
Purified Adsorbed Diphtheria Toxoid 50Lf.
Purified Adsorbed Tetanus Toxoid 10Lf.
B. Pertussis Vaccine 40,000 million organisms
Aluminium Phosphate gel 3.0mg
Indications
:-
DTP/V is used for active immunization of susceptible population,
particularly children against diptheria, tetanus and whooping
cough. Aluminium phosphate serves as an adjuvant giving
rapid and sustained immune response.

By deep intramuscular injection 0.5ml

Precautions
:
The child is not inoculated if -
1. There is a history of fits or convulsions or evidence of disease
of central nervous system in child or its nearest relative.
2. Child has recently suffered from an infectious disease
or has been in contact with such a
case.
3. There is an epidemic of poliomyelitis.
4. Child is not completely fit and well.
5. If there is history of eczema, asthma, hay fever or
any other allergic manifestation in child or its near
relative, a sensitivity test should be carried out as
follows. A trial dose of 0.1ml, should be given deep
subcutaneously. Observe for 1/2 hour. If no local or general
raction follow, full dose of 0.5ml may be given.
Reactions
:-
Local and systemic reactions are mild and infrequent.
In presence of local reaction no local treatment should
be allowed. One or more doses of Aspirin indicated in
case of febrile reaction. Physician should be consulted
if any severe marked reaction develops.
Encephalitic
cases rarely occur in case of whooping cough and other
prophylactic vaccines. Convulsion lethargy or other severe
manifestation are extremely rare.
Packing
:-
DTP/V is supplied in ampoules of 0.5ml and vials of 5ml
Storage
:-
Storage between 2oc and 8oc.
Do not freeze.
